SAGE-RI Workshop “Providing Care to LGBT Older Adults"

SAGE-RI is co-sponsoring a workshop entitled “Providing Care to LGBT Older Adults” to be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Rhode Island Health Care Association (RIHCA) at 57 Kilvert St. #200 in Warwick and virtually via Zoom. Four curriculum modules will be presented focusing on the following topics: background information about LGBT older adults, discrimination and its impact on health disparities, understanding LGBT older adults and strategies for improving quality of care including an introduction to the SAGE/USA and Human Rights Campaign Long-term Care Equality Index.

This workshop is aimed toward administrators, directors of nursing, social workers and staff developers in nursing homes and assisted living facilities but is open to anyone working in long-term care or assisted living facilities who is interested in best practices to deliver quality care for LGBT older adults. A train-the-trainer model will enable participants to offer instruction…
